FILE SERVER: The IBM RS-6000 F50 (Big Blue) file server is directly connected to our quadruple backbone. It caches the last 30,000 routes and makes a decision on where to send internet traffic based on REAL TIME status of the internet. The next connection will then be made using the fastest possible route. The "Big Blue" is capable of handling 2,500 HTML requests per second, and 3000 simultaneous video streams. It is the fastest file server ever tested having processed 103,000 web hits in one minute.
BACKBONE CONNECTION: QUIK owns a quadruple backbone connection including an OC-12 Fiber Optic Line provided by ATM Net, Two T-3 Lines, and One T-1 Line. Providers include ATM Net, Sprint, MCI, and BBN Planet. The OC-12 Fiber Optic Line, our primary backbone is 400 times faster than the T-1 lines used by most of the other Internet service providers (ISP's). It transfers data at 600 MBPS making your connection fast and reliable.
56K ALL DIGITAL MODEMS: QUIK uses all digital modems and telephone data lines so our customers can surf the net faster. We constantly monitor usage level of our modems so that the customer does not encounter busy signals and is always logged on at maximum speed. Our customer to modem ratios are managed to avoid the poor service experienced by some competiors.
PROPRIETARY SOFTWARE: QUIK manages its national communication system and your account using our own specially developed software system. Your initial sign-up and any future business is always handled on-line and completed in a matter of minutes. There is no waiting for data input on internal file updates.
PERSONAL SERVICE: Our customers will always talk to a live person at QUIK Internet of Houston (281-480-7563) who is interested in helping our customers enjoy our premium service. We do not own any answering or voice mail systems because we want to TALK person to person with our customers over the phone.
RELIABILITY: QUIK Internet is able to provide a fast and stable service through use of a national communication system, and web servers. Each QUIK city uses state of the art hardware, and our primary computers are protected by a 4 hour "repair and replace" agreement with IBM. Our long distance communication links are likewise serviced by Sprint or Worldcom.
EFFICIENT WEB PAGE HOSTING: Our combination of equipment and support also gives business a new perspective on web hosting. With the speed of our service, businesses can add more details and grahics to their web pages, and download time will still be faster than most other ISP's.
INTERNET GLOSSARY OF TERMS
ISP: Internet Service Provider. A company that provides customers with a dial-up access via a modem to the internet.
BACKBONE: The transmission lines used to send and receive large amounts of Internet traffic. Initially, backbones were owned and operated by institutions, e.g., ARPNET. Now several backbones are commercially owned and operated, e.g., Sprint, MCI, UUNET, and Worldcom.
T1-LINE: Made of heavy copper wire. The T1 Line is broken down in 24-6464 kilobyte channels at a maximum capacity of 1.54 megabytes. This is the kind of backbone most other ISP's use.
T3 LINE: The T3 Line is a 45 megabyte line. The T3 is equivalent to 28 T1 Lines.
OC-12 FIBER OPTIC LINE: The most advanced internet connection available. The OC-12 Line is a 600 megabyte line which is equivalent to 400 T1 Lines all wrapped in one. With QUIK being 1 out of the 4 companies in the US to use an OC-12 backbone, Houston area users cannot find a faster connection than QUIK Internet of Houston.
QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Does anyone actually own the internet?
No, there is no one organization or governing body that owns or controls the internet. The internet is a combination of ISP's, businesses, telephone companies, and individuals that are all tied together individually forming a network of computers. That network of independently owned computers is known as the "INTERNET".
I'm on America Online, but I'm tired of the busy signals and I want the speed of QUIK Internet. Is there a way to access AOL through QUIK?
Yes, QUIK Internet and America Online are working together so you can have both. You can connect to QUIK and all its services and still have access to AOL using the B.Y.O.A. (bring your own access) plan. The set up is very easy, you basically have two accounts, one with QUIK Internet, and one with AOL. The only difference is you will be using QUIK Internet Service to log on to the net. That way you will have no more busy signals, and you'll have the speed of QUIK Internet.
We can provide a procedure to modify the settings in your AOL browser which will allow access from the Internet rather than dialing into the AOL number. The change will reduce your cost for the AOL account to $9.95 per month. This means that you can have QUIK and AOL for about $8.00 per month more than AOL alone. Contact QUIK to set up your new account to make the change.
